Man set ablaze, then causes 3 homes to catch fire

DETROIT - A 48-year-old man was set ablaze, causing three houses on the city's southwest side to catch fire, police said.

The man, who has not been identified, was severely burned and taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, said police spokeswoman Yvette Walker.

The incident occurred after 10 a.m. Thursday, police told the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press.

Police and neighbors say it was triggered by an argument between two men over a woman.

"I heard a loud boom," said neighbor Sandra Legreair.

Legreair, 46, who lives in the house next door, said she heard a woman's screams for help and stepped outside on her porch.

"I saw this man just burning from head to toe," she said.

Legreair said she used a comforter to extinguish the flames after she saw the man rolling on the ground.

One of the burning houses was gutted and another sustained heavy damage.

Police have taken a man into custody, Walker said.

　警察広報官のインベット・ウォーカー氏は、身元が判明していないその男性は、ひどい火傷を負っており、デトロイト・レシービング病院へ搬送され、重体であると述べた。

　警察側がデトロイト・ニュースとデトロイト・フリー・プレスに語ったところによると、事件は今週木曜日の午前10時以降に発生したようだ。

　警察と隣人らの証言によると、ある1人の女性に関して2人の男性が揉めたことが引き金になったという。

　「大きな物音がした」と、隣人のサンドラ・レグレアーさんは述べた。

　隣の家に住んでいるレグレアーさん（46）は、助けを求める女性の悲鳴を聞き、ポーチに飛び出したと証言している。

　「男性が頭の先から爪の先まで燃えているのを目撃した」と、レグレアーさんは語った。

　レグレアーさんは、男性が地面を転げまわっているのを発見した後に、火を消すために羽根布団を使ったと述べた。

　燃えた家のうちの1件は内部まで破壊されてしまった。残りの家も大きな被害を受けたという。

　ウォーカー氏によると、この事件に関し、ある男性が勾引されているということだ。
