Man Barbecues Neighbor’s Dog, Gets 2.5 Years

A man from the Urals region of Russia was sentenced Tuesday to 2.5 years behind bars for killing his neighbor’s dog and making a barbecue from it.

Interfax reported that Dmitri Purigin, 29, was having a barbecue with friends in front of his house in February 2006. His neighbor’s son, aged 11, was walking his dog, a stray mongrel he talked his parents into taking in.

Purigin approached the boy, snatched the leash away from him and went off with the dog.

When the boy’s mother came home later that day, it was too late to save the animal. The dog had been killed, skinned and part of the meat had been barbecued and eaten. Some was left in the snow for later, with the bloody skin lying nearby.

A court found Purigin guilty of robbery and gave him a prison term. The defendant tried to appeal the ruling, but failed.

【ロシア（モスニュース/インタファクス通信）】　今週火曜日、ウラル地方出身のある男性が、隣り家の飼い犬を殺害しバーベキューにした罪で懲役2年6ヶ月の実刑判決を受けた。

　インタファクス通信によると、ドミトリー・プリジン被告（29）は2006年2月、自宅前で友人らとバーベキューを行っていたという。隣人の11歳になる息子は、両親を説得して飼い始めた捨て犬の散歩をしていた。

　プリジン被告は少年に接近し、鎖を引ったくり、その犬を連れ去ったという。

　その後少年の母親が帰宅したが、犬を救い出すにはあまりにも遅すぎであった。犬は殺害され、皮を剥がれた。肉の部位はバーベキューにされ、食べられた。また何切れかの肉は、剥がされた血まみれの皮と共に、近くの雪の上に放置されていた。

　裁判所はプリジン被告の有罪と判断し、懲役刑を下した。被告側は上訴しようとしたが、却下された。
